Protest With Love

I’m flailing my arms at the passing cars,
metal and rubber,
gas fumes and roars….
We think we need more oil.

I can’t sleep at night ‘cause
the rage of highway insects buzzes in
the darkness.
We think we need more asphalt.

I fancy traveling in my metal shell,
seeing the bridges and buildings flow by
in a movie set.
We think we need more illusions.

The wall of civilization blocking past dreams of
loving each other beside wood fires
still rings in our ears.
We need to wake up!

In your eyes I see no oil or asphalt.
Steel and rubber dissolve in your tears.
I do not see civilizations rising and falling.
I see only myself reflected in the shinning orb
of a terrible human love.
