RESUME
OVERVIEW: I have over 40 years of experience in eight
different laboratories performing in both research and clinical
capacities. This variety of experience, plus over 20 years of part
time teaching at Shasta College, along with twelve years as manager
of Mercy Medical Center's Laboratory Information System (LIS), make
me uniquely qualified to bring a broad range of skills to any
endeavor.
SCIENCE EXPERIENCE:
1985 - 2003 LABORATORY INFORMATION SYSTEM MANAGER
MEDICAL TECHNOLOGIST (CA License #MTA12369)
Mercy Medical Center, Redding, CA 96001
From 1985 to 1991, I was a medical generalist, working all laboratory
departments and all shifts in several labs from Boston to Honolulu.
In 1991, I became LIS (Laboratory Information System) manager. This
position required writing a RFP (Request For Proposal), then
organizing a project team to select and implement an LIS into our
lab (formerly a paper system).
After selecting an LIS vendor and negotiating a contract, I received
two weeks intensive training in database management by Sunquest
Information Systems (the vendor).
Prior to "going live" in December of 1992, I was responsible for
setting up the system's hardware. This involved two RISC 6000 CPU's,
terminal servers, cabling, modems, terminals, printers, etc.
Also, I was responsible to see that nine instrument interfaces, a
hospital interface and reference lab interface were installed and
functioning properly. In the late 90's two more hospitals were
brought into our system. That resulted in managing over 20
instrument interfaces, over 30 printers, and over 40 monitors.
I was responsible for two major hardware upgrades occurred during my
10 years as LIS Manager.
Duties involved data base entry and management and testing of vendor
programs. Management of training of over sixty employees was an
additional responsibility.
After ten years administrating the LIS, some of my duties were:
Daily system monitoring.
Hardware maintenance.
Instrument interfaces.
System backup monitoring.
System link monitoring.
Monthly tapes and purging patients.
Help desk- daily problems- technical and procedural.
Operating systems (AIX and MUMPS) upgrades.
System evaluations and conversions (ex. A-B Link).
Future overlays and system modifications.
Hardware upgrades.
Installation/testing/implementation of new software versions.
New site expansions and peripherals.
Liaison and support of lab staff with ITS.
Evaluate and propose capital budgets for LIS.
Flexisearch overlays.
Flexisearch reports and training.
Establish LIS policies and procedures.
Share 24 hour call coverage 365 days per year with co-manager.
